About the NC State University Club

Providing recreational and social opportunities for our members for over 60 years!

We are a private club nestled on forty acres of the western campus of NCSU and have been servicing our members from the NC State community since 1958.

We pride ourselves on creating a family-friendly environment where our members can relax, build new relationships and foster existing ones in a fun, energetic, and relaxing atmosphere. As our founding president, Dr. George Lucas exclaimed at the grand opening of the Club “I know of no college in the United States that will have a nice a thing as we do.”

Through our valuable amenities and strong ties to the University, the mission of the University Club is to provide enriching social experiences, personalized service, and access to athletic and recreational programs while nurturing a culture of friendship and fellowship for our members, their families and guests.

History of the NC State University Club

The NC State University Club facility was dedicated in 1961 and served NC State faculty & staff. The facility was built on land leased for 99 years from the State of North Carolina. Funding was made possible by a gift from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Inc. The facility and recreational venues are situated on approximately 45 acres of land in Wake County. By the mid-1990's, the Club's membership was changed from only faculty and staff to also allow NC State alumni to join and the name was subsequently changed from the NC State Faculty Club to the current NC State University Club.

Membership eligibility now includes Centennial Campus Partners, Friends of the University and Friends of the University Club. The University Club is proud to be celebrating over 60 years of operation and is well-positioned to continue serving its members for many years to come, building on our rich traditions with the University community and fostering an active and diverse community of members engaging in recreational and social activities.

Future Plans

It is an exciting time at the University Club! We have grown a lot over the years, but the biggest accomplishments are ahead of us as we progress through our Master Plan and add value to the Club one renovation at a time!

It all started with the Raleigh I-440 Widening Project and the impact this project had on our property line. Rather than just adjusting to accommodate that change, our Board of Directors used it as an opportunity to build a 10-20 year plan to guide upgrades and renovations to all of our amenities! This plan will be actualized in phases over the coming years beginning with our brand new tennis facilities that are being constructed right now. Our new tennis facilities will include 9 clay tennis courts, 8 pickleball courts and plans for the addition of a building to house 4 indoor tennis courts - an improvement from the 8 courts we had previously. We couldn't be more excited about the value that this will add to our already-exceptional tennis program! Because of the correlation between this phase of our plan and the I-440 Widening Project, this phase also includes some necessary adjustments to our parking, modifications to our golf course, and some NCDOT construction along our property line.

Following the tennis facilities, we will be completing a full new aquatics area, a Clubhouse addition including a brand new restaurant and an expansion to our fitness center, and a redesign of our golf course in separate phases. The images below provide a general outline for the layout of the Club property that each new amenity will follow.
